Pete leads the Nonproliferation and National Security Department, which applies technical expertise to address global security threats, finding and implementing practical solutions to realize nonproliferation and national security policy objectives. His personal focus is on strategic dual-use trade control, particularly in the advancement of effective targeting strategies for identifying high-risk shipments and the establishment of training programs for export control enforcement personnel. Pete led the original development of Commodity Identification Training for the DOE’s International Nonproliferation Export Control Program (INECP), and he is currently INECP’s laboratory technical lead for cooperation with the European Union and with international organizations such as the IAEA and the WCO. He supports implementation of U.S. nuclear export and technology controls, U.S. participation in international nonproliferation regimes and agreements, and global security engagement and cooperation.

His professional experience includes serving as an officer in the U.S. Navy’s nuclear propulsion program and working for a management consulting firm specializing in the strategic application of technology.
