National Security & Nonproliferation Department

Dr. Charles Roche is the Manager of the National Security & Nonproliferation Department in the Nuclear Engineering Division at Argonne National Laboratory. The Department conducts work on the security of nuclear & radiological materials; implementation of controls on nuclear and dual-use exports; development of information security systems; and safety analysis of Russian-Designed nuclear reactors. Dr. Roche has over thirty years experience working on technologies in nuclear materials safeguards, radiation detection systems and particle accelerator development, including beam diagnostics. Most recently he has worked on upgrading security systems at nuclear sites in the former Soviet Union (FSU) for the DOE nuclear material protection, control and accounting (MPC&A) program. He received a Ph.D. in Nuclear Chemistry from the University of Maryland.
