Support to NNSA's Office of Multilateral Affairs
International export control norms, guidelines, and control lists are established by the multilateral supplier regimes established to control nuclear, chemical, biological, and missile-related exports, such as the Nuclear Suppliers Group, the Australia Group, and the Missile Technology Control Regime.
Argonne’s Export Control Program is a major contributor to NNSA’s efforts to sustain and strengthen the multilateral supplier regimes, contributing our technical expertise towards development of diplomatic guidance and interagency positions, updating the regime control lists, and recommending actions to strengthen the regimes.
Current multilateral regime support activities include:
- Development of the Handbook for the Australia Group Chemical Weapons Precursors.
- Development of the Australia Group Chemical and Biological Equipment Handbook.
- A survey of unmanned aerial vehicle and cruise missile capabilities and availability.
- Technical analysis of Libya’s chemical weapons program from procurement and supplier standpoints.
- An analysis of China’s chemical industry.
- An analysis of Advanced Aqueous Separation Technologies.
- A study of brokering and brokering controls.
