In addition to nuclear system applications, the section applies its expertise in fluid dynamics and heat transfer simulation to the development of engine compartment cooling systems. Recent activities include the development of advanced models and methods for underhood thermal analysis with USCAR, and examination of underhood thermal conditions in hybrid vehicles. Two current activities are the thermal management studies for off-road machines and class-8 trucks. The Efforts focus on development of new models and methodologies for use in existing software systems and making these technologies available to the manufacturing community.
