Senior Nuclear Engineer Yousry Gohar and Senior Physicist Jim Matos recently received U.S. Department of Energy Secretarial Honor Awards from Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz.
Gohar and Matos were honored for their work with the DOE Global Nuclear Material Removal Program. The program's goal is to remove or dispose of excess nuclear and radiological materials that could be used in a weapon of mass destruction from civilian sites worldwide. The scope of work includes removing Russian-origin nuclear material, U.S.-origin nuclear material, other nuclear material not covered by the Russian and U.S. origin efforts, removal of excess radiological material worldwide that could be used to make a dirty bomb, and reconciling the location of all HEU exports from the U.S. since 1957.
The Honor Awards recognize individual and team excellence and achievement. The Honor Awards are the department's highest form of nonmonetary employee recognition.
The Nuclear Engineering Division of Argonne National Laboratory congratulates Dr. Gohar and Dr. Matos on this distinguished achievement. This is the second Honor Award for Yousry Gohar.
