Bo Feng receives DOE Nuclear Energy Fuel Cycle R&D Excellence Award

Nuclear engineer Bo Feng
November 24, 2014
Argonne nuclear engineer Bo Feng was recently recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Nuclear Energy (DOE-NE) with a Nuclear Energy Fuel Cycle R&D Excellence Award.
The award was presented at the 2014 American Nuclear Society (ANS) Winter Meeting in Anaheim, CA, during a panel session titled "Progress in DOE's Fuel Cycle Research and Development Program". This session was held to recognize several early to mid-career researchers supporting DOE's Fuel Cycle R&D program, and was organized and chaired by Andrew Griffith, Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fuel Cycle Technologies.
As part of this session, Dr. Feng presented a talk on "Analysis of Transition from Current to Promising Advanced Fuel Cycles," based on his ongoing research for DOE-NE's Fuel Cycle Options Campaign. This work involves the development and use of nuclear fuel cycle system dynamics codes to help inform DOE on how policy and technology decisions can affect fuel cycle transition characteristics and performance.
In addition to this work, his research at Argonne also includes reactor physics analysis and core design of high conversion water reactors and fast reactors. Prior to joining Argonne in 2011, he studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned his S.B., S.M., and Ph.D. in Nuclear Science and Engineering.
