December 10, 2014
Argonne National Security Program Leader Keith Bradley and nuclear engineer Elia Merzari were recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy's Nuclear Energy Advanced Modeling & Simulation (NEAMS) Program during the recent NEAMS PI Meeting held in Washington, DC, December 3-5, 2014.

A DOE Nuclear Energy Advanced Modeling and Simulation Team-Building Award was presented to Keith Bradley in recognition of his dedication to creating the multi-institution collaborative environment that resulted in the development of the NEAMS ToolKit.

A DOE Nuclear Energy Advanced Modeling and Simulation Innovation Award was presented to Elia Merzari in recognition of his leadership in completing first-of-a-kind multiphysics simulations of a sodium cooled fast reactor core undergoing thermally induced structural deformations that demonstrate an innovative new approach to the analysis of sodium cooled fast reactors.

The goal of the NEAMS Program is to enhance DOE-NE's research and development portfolio through the development of advanced computational methods. The tools being developed, known as the NEAMS ToolKit, provide insights into the performance and safety of advanced reactor systems that cannot be obtained through experimentation alone. They complement experimental work by helping to design experiments that are more complex and informative and then helping to interpret the results of those experiments.
