Dr. Sofu joined Argonne in 1992 as a post-doctoral appointee after receiving his degree in Nuclear Engineering from University of Tennessee in Knoxville. During his tenure at Argonne, Dr. Sofu has contributed to a number of nuclear and non-nuclear projects mostly focusing on development of simulation models for engineering system analyses involving multi-dimensional, multi-scale, multi-physics phenomena.
Dr. Tanju Sofu is currently the program manager for advanced methods, modeling and advanced reactor licensing in Argonne's Nuclear Engineering Division. His main responsibilities include:
- leadership for the Reactor Product Line of Department of Energy's Nuclear Energy Advanced Modeling and Simulation (NEAMS) program, and
- coordination of the multi-laboratory activities for the Fast Reactor Methods and V&V projects under Department of Energy's Advanced Reactor Technologies (ART) program.
Dr. Sofu also provides technical leadership and programmatic guidance for a spectrum of projects including the design and licensing of innovative nuclear reactor concepts, development of advanced modeling and simulation methods/codes, engineering simulations, and safety analyses. He serves as the co-chair of OECD/Nuclear Energy Agency's Generation-IV International Forum (GIF) Risk & Safety Working Group and the Safety Design Criteria Task Force.
